We are the only professional body in the world that can award Chartered status to individual HR and L&D professionals. It's our job to define what professionalism in HR and L&D looks like, and to provide the tools and resources to help our members meet those stringent standards.

Most employers look for more than a qualification when recruiting HR practitioners; they look for a symbol of professionalism that indicates an individual’s commitment to raising their standards of knowledge, capability and ethical practice.

Professional membership of the CIPD demonstrates that you meet our rigorous entry criteria and professional standards. As well as adhering to our Code of Conduct, all professional members of the CIPD must demonstrate that they have the technical knowledge, skills, behaviours and experience outlined in our current body of knowledge - the Profession Map.

But the definition of a professional goes beyond knowledge and competencies, so we're scoping out a new Professional Standards Framework that will provide greater clarity around what’s expected of our Chartered Members in all aspects of professionalism, including knowledge, skills, behaviours, situational judgement, social responsibility and a commitment to continuing professional development.
